A new way to understand aging – rooted in research, shaped by experience, and made for today’s Canada.

Offering a fresh and engaging perspective on aging, Adult Development and Aging prepares the next generation of professionals to understand and respond to the changes and challenges associated with Canada’s rapidly aging population.

Designed for students in psychology, healthcare, and the social sciences, this book reframes aging for individuals who specialize in working with older adults. While aging is often viewed through a lens of decline, Adult Development and Aging challenges this assumption, showing instead that aging is a diverse, meaningful, and deeply individual experience.

As the over-85 population becomes the fastest-growing age group in Canada, with more people reaching 100-years old than ever before, gerontology continues to evolve. Harper provides students with a robust foundation grounded in current research, real-world examples, and lived experience, preparing them to better support aging adults in today’s Canada.

Adult Development and Aging is both a celebration of a generation that has profoundly shaped Canadian society and a forward-looking assessment of how prepared Canada is to support adults as they transition into later life.
